ContrastPeek Privacy Policy

ContrastPeek checks the WCAG contrast of two colors and scans a page for text that falls short of AA/AAA — entirely on your machine. Local-first is the whole product, not an afterthought.

What we collect

Nothing. ContrastPeek has zero telemetry and makes no network requests at all: no analytics, no usage data, no crash reports, no account. It collects nothing about the pages you visit or the colors you check. This is enforced in the build, not just promised — a red-line check fails the release if any outbound-network or remote-code pattern appears in the shipped code, and an end-to-end test asserts the extension makes zero outbound requests.

What ContrastPeek stores, and where

• Your default standard (AA or AAA) and your language choice (if you pick one instead of following the browser) are stored locally on your device using the browser's extension storage. The language choice lives under contrastpeek.locale.v1 and is not synced across devices; your default standard uses synced extension storage so it can follow your browser profile. Neither ever leaves your machine to us.
• The last two colors you entered in the popup are remembered locally so the popup opens where you left off. They never leave your machine.
• The page you scan is read in memory in the current tab and is never stored, uploaded, or transmitted. Only the colors and text of elements are inspected to compute contrast; the results live in the side panel and are discarded when you close it.

Permissions and why they are requested

ContrastPeek installs with no access to any website — no host permissions and no declared content scripts, so it can see no page until you ask it to.

• activeTab, scripting — let the side panel scan the current tab for contrast when you click the toolbar icon or the Scan button. This is a one-time read of that single tab, with no permanent access; the browser revokes it as soon as you navigate away.
• storage — stores your default standard, language choice, and last color pair locally (see above).
• sidePanel (Chrome/Edge) — lets ContrastPeek show the full-page scan results in the browser's side panel. On Firefox the same UI is a sidebar and needs no extra permission.

Remote code

ContrastPeek contains no remotely-hosted code. All executable logic ships inside the extension package; there is no eval, no external script, and no remote configuration. The colors and pages you give it are treated as data, never as code.

Feedback you send us

The extension itself sends nothing. If you want to reach us, help and feedback are handled on the product website; the extension does not contain a reporting form and transmits no diagnostics.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we update the Last updated date above and revise the extension's listing on the stores where it's published. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies.
