Font Finder Privacy Policy

The short answer

Font Finder inspects only the browser tab you invoke, makes no network requests, and never stores or collects page content.

Font Finder lets you hover any text on a page to see its typeface, weight and size, and copy paste-ready CSS — entirely on your machine. Local-first is the whole product, not an afterthought.

What we collect

Nothing. Font Finder has zero telemetry and makes no network requests at all: no analytics, no usage data, no crash reports, no account. It collects nothing about the pages you visit or the text you inspect. This is enforced in the build, not just promised — a red-line check fails the release if any outbound-network or remote-code pattern appears in the shipped code, and an end-to-end test asserts the inspection layer makes zero outbound requests.

What Font Finder stores, and where

  • Your language choice (if you pick one instead of following the browser) is stored locally on your device using the browser's extension storage (storage.local, under the key fontfinder.locale.v1). It never leaves your machine and is not synced across devices.
  • Your preferences (font-size unit and which fields the hover tip shows) are stored in the browser's extension storage (storage.sync, under the key settings) so they roam with your browser profile. They contain no page content.
  • A local diagnostics log (storage.local, key fontfinder.errlog.v1) keeps at most the 50 most recent error summaries — an error name and short message, never page content — so you can copy them into a feedback message yourself. It is never sent anywhere.
  • The text you inspect is read from the current tab in memory and is never stored, uploaded, or transmitted. Detection (which font is rendering, its weight and size) is computed in the page and discarded when you exit.

Permissions and why they are requested

Font Finder installs with no access to any website — no host permissions (not even optional ones) and no declared content scripts, so it can see no page until you ask it to.

  • activeTab, scripting — let you inspect the fonts on the current tab when you click the toolbar icon. This is a one-time action on that single tab, with no permanent access. The inspection layer is removed and the page restored when you press ESC or exit.
  • storage — stores your language choice, your preferences, and the local diagnostics log (see above). Nothing about the pages you inspect is ever written to storage.

There are no optional host permissions: Font Finder never requests access to "all sites". Each use is a single, explicit click on a single tab.

Remote code

Font Finder contains no remotely-hosted code. All executable logic ships inside the extension package; there is no eval, no external script, and no remote configuration. The text on the page is treated as data, never as code.

Feedback you send us

The extension itself sends nothing. If you want to reach us, feedback is handled on the product website; the extension does not contain a reporting form and transmits no diagnostics. The "Copy diagnostics" button assembles a short local text blob that you choose to paste into the website form — nothing is sent automatically.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we update the Last updated date above and revise the extension's listing on the stores where it's published. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies.
