PixelPeek Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-07-11

The short answer

PixelPeek measures only the tab you invoke, stores preferences locally, makes no network requests, and collects nothing.

PixelPeek is a screen ruler and pixel-measure tool: it overlays a measuring layer on any web page so you can drag out sizes, read spacing between elements, drop guides, and pick colors — entirely on your machine. Local-first is the whole product, not an afterthought.

What we collect

Nothing. PixelPeek has zero telemetry and makes no network requests at all: no analytics, no usage data, no crash reports, no account. It collects nothing about the pages you visit or the things you measure. This is enforced in the build, not just promised — a red-line check fails the release if any outbound-network or remote-code pattern appears in the shipped code, and an end-to-end test asserts the overlay makes zero outbound requests.

What PixelPeek stores, and where

  • Your preferences (default mode, color format, readout label size, reduce-motion) are stored using the browser's extension storage (storage.sync, under the key pixelpeek.settings.v1) so they follow your browser profile. They contain no personal data.
  • Your language choice (if you pick one instead of following the browser) is stored locally on your device (storage.local, under the key pixelpeek.locale.v1). It never leaves your machine and is not synced.
  • A small local error log (storage.local, key pixelpeek.errlog.v1, capped at 50 entries) keeps recent error summaries on your device to help you report a bug if you choose to. It is never sent anywhere.
  • The page you measure is never stored, uploaded, or transmitted, and is never modified — everything is drawn on the extension's own layer and removed without a trace when you close it.

Permissions and why they are requested

PixelPeek installs with no access to any website — no host permissions, no optional host permissions, and no declared content scripts — so it can see no page until you ask it to.

  • activeTab, scripting — let PixelPeek draw the measuring overlay on the current tab when you click the toolbar icon or press its keyboard command. This is a one-time action on that single tab, with no permanent access and no ability to read any other page.
  • storage — stores your preferences and language choice (see above).

There are no other permissions. PixelPeek never requests access to all sites.

Remote code

PixelPeek contains no remotely-hosted code. All executable logic ships inside the extension package; there is no eval, no external script, and no remote configuration.

Feedback you send us

The extension itself sends nothing. If you want to reach us, feedback is handled on the product website; the extension does not contain a reporting form and transmits no diagnostics. If you choose to report a bug, you can copy a short local diagnostics summary yourself — nothing is sent automatically.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we update the Last updated date above and revise the extension's listing on the stores where it's published. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies.
