Is Word Counter free?
Yes. It is a free extension with no account requirement and no paid upgrade.
Does my text leave the browser?
No. Counting runs locally. The extension reads a page selection only when you open the popup on that tab (activeTab), and nothing is uploaded.
How does it count Chinese and Japanese?
CJK text is counted per character, and mixed text applies word rules to the Latin parts — so the totals match how those languages are really counted.
